CAPT Schedule Posted
IMPORTANT CAPT INFORMATION
Connecticut legislation requires that all 10th grade students take the Connecticut Academic Performance Test (CAPT). Students who meet the state goal in one or more subject areas receive a certificate of mastery in those areas and the certificate is attached to the student’s high school transcript. Students who do not meet the state goals in one or more areas have the option of retaking those sections in the 11th and 12th grade to earn certification. CAPT has greater significance in that it will provide 10th grade students an opportunity to satisfy their graduation performance requirements. In addition to receiving 23 credits, students will also be required to demonstrate proficiency in reading, writing, science and math in order to receive a Berlin High School diploma. By scoring at the proficiency level on the CAPT tests, students can meet the graduation requirements. In addition, with the passage of the “No Child Left Behind Act,” all schools are expected to achieve a 95% participation rate or better on CAPT testing. If we do not reach this participation level, our school will be labeled a “failing school.” It is therefore essential, for several reasons, that students are present on the testing days. The following are the procedures to be followed during the testing period: First: All 9th grade students will take CAPT tests at the same time as 10th graders are being tested. The purpose of 9th grade testing is to determine those areas in which students demonstrate deficiencies and thereby have an opportunity to improve their scores in the 10th grade. The 9th grade test will count as a class grade in English, Math, Science and Social Studies. Obviously, attendance is mandatory since this is considered a regular school day. Second: All test takers will arrive by 7: 25 a.m. Bus pickup times and routes have not been changed. Third: The school day for 11th and 12th grade non-test takers will be altered on the testing days as follows (there is no special transportation for non-test takers): Date Subject Arrival Time for Test Takers Testing Time 11th & 12th Grade NON TEST TAKERS Begin Class at: Tuesday, March 2 Interdisciplinary Writing 1 and Editing 7:25 7:30 – 9:30 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, March 3 Response to Literature Reading for Information 7:25 7:30 – 9:50 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 4 Interdisciplinary Writing 2 7:25 7:30 – 8:50 9:00 a.m. Monday March 8 Science 1 7:25 7:30 – 8:35 8:50 a.m. Tuesday, March 9 Science 2 7:25 7:30 – 8:35 8:50 a.m. Wednesday, March 10 Math 1 7:25 7:30 – 9:00 9:15 a.m. Thursday, March 11 Math 2 7:25 7:30 – 9:00 9:15 a.m. Friday, March 12 Supplemental Test – Reading for Information 7:25 7:25 – 8:55 7:25 (all students) For a more detailed schedule that lists the Periods and Bells for the week Click Here Finally, I would ask the cooperation of all parents to reinforce the importance of the CAPT tests with their children. I would also ask that you emphasize the importance of their timely attendance on the testing days. Our students have done exceptionally well in previous CAPT testing and we hope to continue that tradition! If you have any questions concerning CAPT, please feel free to contact your student’s guidance counselor, Dr. Bill Silva at extension 188, or me at 860-828-6577. |
