Bristol Central too Strong for Speedy Redcoats

The BHS sprint team had a phenomenal day nearly sweeping all the sprinting races. Boys Suffer opening Loss at Middletown

Despite strong performances by the 4 x 800 and 4 x 100 m relay teams, the Redcoats fell to Middletown 89-65.  Despite the loss, there is reason for optimism.  We have found a new high jumper who will challenge for the conference championship, and our sprinters have shown that they can run with the best in our conference.  Christian Lapierre cleared 5-10 in his first meet as a high jumper, winning the event and qualifying for states.  In the throws, newcomer Dan Labbadia threw the javelin over 127 ft in his first meet to take third behind Tri-Captain, Sulleyman Bozal who later suffered a broken nose in the polevault - preventing him from clearing a height and taking a place in that event.  Second year pole vaulter Ben Kall cleared 9-6, equalling his best from last season, and winning the Pole vault.  Mitch Maslowski won the 200 and qualified for states, after taking second in the 100 and third in the Long Jump.  Mitch will be a contender in long jump, inching up on the 19-0 mark which would  qualifying for states.  The distance group turned in a strong performance, backing up a near state qualifying relay, with solid runs in the 1600 where Jake Harris and Dan Perales each broke 5:10 and in the 3200, where Perales set another personal best going 11:11.  Alex Berger made a statement in the 400, running a respectable 54.7.  Senior Tri-Captain Joe Inturri, Junior Kevin Russell, Maslowski and Lapierre all qualified for states in the 4 x 100 m relay.  Last season, they set a new school record at the state meet.  Despite being a little short-handed because of vacation, the boys put in a great effort against Middletown.
